Oceans in Motion 2022 Film Competition

Plastic Oceans Australasia (POA) invites the Australian and New Zealand boating community to showcase an initiative they have implemented, or are working to implement to reduce or eliminate single-use plastics.

POA are looking for a completed film that displays a journey over time, as well as the and effort gone into planning, designing and executing their project.

Calling all boaties!

✔ Analyse the plastic waste habits of your inner circles
✔ Research alternatives to single-use plastics
✔ Plan, design and deliver a plastic reduction initiative
✔ Share your journey by producing a film that is 5 - 10 minutes in length

Your Entry Should Include:

The journey of your initiative from start to finish. Show us in a film of 10 minutes or less
  • Why you decided to tackle a specific plastic problem or product

  • What steps you took to understand the problem and plan your initiative

  • How you put your plan into action

  • Any challenges you faced to achieve your goal

  • Any successes received by your boating community through this journey

Your film can be a documentary or a public service announcement, serious or funny, live action or animated - it's up to you!

We encourage you to use the power of a team to create your film! Grab a friend and a camera and get started.

  • What steps did you take to plan your initiative?

  • How did you put your plan into action?

  • Did you succeed in reaching your goals?

  • If not, what obstacles or challenges did you face?

Important competition dates

  • Registration opens 7th March 2022

  • Film entries submission deadline 23rd November 2022, 11:59pm AEST via YouTube or Vimeo link

  • Winners announced via email and social media 8th December 2022

Entry Requirements

  • The competition is open to all people with a connection to the water via a floating vessel within Australia and New Zealand

  • This category invites people with a floating vessel such as (but is not limited to) trawler, tug, dingy, lifeboat, sailboat, ferry, houseboat, fishing boat, catamaran, kayak, canoe, inflatable boats, commercial shipping liner, cruise-ship, competition vessels, utility boat & yachts.

  • Registration to participate in the competition should be submitted to gain more information and support from POA

  • All entries should showcase how you have implemented or attempted to reduce or eliminate single-use plastics on the vessel

  • Entries can be in any language, but English subtitles are required for films which are not in English

  • All content used in your submission, including images, music, and video clips must be your own, or you must have written permission for use of any other content

  • Film entries must be between 5-10 minutes in duration and submitted via YouTube or Vimeo link by Wednesday 23rd November 2022 at 11:59pm AEST
